The part-time Master's programme M.Sc. Implantology and Dental Surgery is designed for dentists who want to systematically deepen their knowledge of implantology, dental surgery and hard and soft tissue management.
The programme is delivered by the International Medical College (IMC) in cooperation with the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine at TU Dresden. TU Dresden is the degree-awarding university. Scientific foundations, evidence-based treatment planning and clinical application are closely interlinked.
You can choose between a German-language and an English-language programme, each lasting three semesters and worth 60 ECTS, as well as an English-language programme lasting four semesters and worth 90 ECTS. All options are designed to be completed alongside your professional work and combine e-learning, live online lectures, practical exercises and clinical training phases.

The basic modules provide the medical and surgical foundations for safe implantological practice. Topics include anatomy and histology, immunology and inflammatory processes, medical history and treatment of high-risk patients, emergency medicine, local anaesthesia, radiological diagnostics including CBCT, hygiene, diseases of the oral mucosa, odontogenic infections, traumatology and dentoalveolar surgery.
The specialisation modules focus on implantological diagnostics and treatment planning, implant prosthetics, surgical principles, bone substitutes and augmentation, Guided Bone Regeneration, soft tissue management, and the prevention and treatment of complications. Current research questions in implantology complement the curriculum.
Participants learn to analyse complex implantological cases on an evidence-based footing, develop treatment strategies and apply surgical procedures responsibly. This also includes recognising clinical limitations, critically appraising scientific literature and documenting decisions in a transparent, traceable way. Practical exercises and clinical training phases transfer this knowledge to typical situations in everyday dental practice.
The digital learning content is available via the IMC learning platform and can be worked through flexibly at your own pace. Online lectures are usually recorded and supplemented with practice questions. The on-site and practical phases include surgical exercises, topics in implant prosthetics, anatomy training and clinical practicals.
The programmes are aimed at experienced dentists and build on existing clinical practice. The full admission requirements can be found on the page for each programme. The Board of Examiners decides on the recognition of modules and a possible reduction of tuition fees once the relevant evidence has been submitted.
