The IMC
The International Medical College® (IMC) at the Technical University of Dresden is a university-based continuing education institute that offers postgraduate master's programmes in dentistry using a blended learning concept.
The following Master's programmes leading to the academic degree ‘Master of Science (M.Sc.)’ are offered:
- M.Sc. in Implantology and Dental Surgery
- M.Sc. in Specialized Orthodontics
- M.Sc. in Periodontology
- M.Sc. in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry
- M.Sc. in Advanced General Dental Practice
The establishment of these postgraduate university courses was recommended and promoted by the Science Council of the German Federal Government in order to strengthen research and teaching in dentistry (Science Council, 2005).
The IMC Master's programmes are courses offered by Dresden University of Technology. They have been successfully accredited by the Accreditation Council of the Federal Republic of Germany in accordance with the Bologna Consensus Conference. The academic degree is awarded jointly by Dresden University of Technology and the IMC.
History of the IMC
| 2003 | Founding of the International Medical College® (IMC) in Münster as a public-private partnership (PPP) model between the University of Münster and MIB GmbH, Münster; start of first Master's programme |
| 2004 | Accreditation by the Accreditation Council (the concept was rated as exemplary for other universities); university network with the universities of Leipzig, Duisburg-Essen and Budapest; cooperation with the Schloß Schellenstein Clinic, Olsberg-Bigge and the BWK Koblenz military hospital |
| 2005 | Hungary degree programme, evidence-based knowledge database for medicine/dentistry through university association (editorial team) and university library, launch of a structured continuous training platform (IMC training courses) in cooperation with the Westphalia-Lippe Dental Association |
| 2006 | Establishment of an evidence-based knowledge database for medicine/dentistry by the university network (editorial team) and university library IMC WIKI© |
| 2007 | Expansion of the university network to include the universities of Berlin, Düsseldorf, Bern (Switzerland) and Porto Allegre (Brazil); implementation of the first Master's programme in English language |
| 2008 | Cooperation with the University of Szeged/Hungary, Municipal Hospital Karlsruhe; gradual expansion of the IMC WIKI® in English |
| 2009 | Cooperation with DGZI (Deutsche Gesellschaft für zahnärztliche Implantologie) and GBOI (German Board of Oral Implantology) in Jordan |
| 2010 | Cooperation with Libya (specialist and master's degree training) |
| 2012 | Joint master's degree programme with Mahidol University Bangkok |
| 2013 | Accreditation of further Master's programmes as joint degrees with the Universities of Dresden, Essen, Homburg/Saar, Leipzig and Szeged: Implantology and Dental Surgery (M.Sc.), Aesthetic and Dental Surgery (M.Sc.), Specialised Orthodontics (M.Sc.) |
